Ceylon Tobacco Company - Gary Tarrant

Mr. Gary Tarrant joined the Board of Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC as Non-Executive Director with effect from 1st July 2023.

Gary started his professional career in 1993 with Unilever in the legal department. He joined BAT in 2004 as Senior Trademark Manager following his tenure at a law firm based in London.

During his time at BAT, he has undertaken various roles within the Legal and External Affairs function across multiple countries including the Middle East, West Africa and North Asia.

On 1 April 2023, Gary was appointed as Regional Head of Legal and External Affairs and Regional General Counsel for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa where he is responsible for all legal, regulatory and corporate affairs matters for the region. Prior to taking on his current role he was the Head of Legal & External Affairs for the Middle East Area in 2019; in 2020 and 2022 the Area was expanded to include South Asia & North Africa, respectively.

Gary holds the knowledge to leverage his functional capabilities and commercial acumen to propel the legal and external affairs strategic agenda together with a key focus on the development of future leaders within the organization.

Gary is an English qualified Solicitor. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Sussex, UK and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Nottingham, UK.
